Grimes students receive donation of turkeys from Mikes Tire & Auto Repair Shop

Mike's Tire & Auto Repair Shop came to Grimes School to drop off another donation last week – this time, turkeys for students to take home for Thanksgiving! Thank you, Mike's, for supporting our students!

Sixth-graders in Tameka Cooper’s class at Grimes School were still researching, debating and buying stocks Friday as the Mount Vernon City School District’s CTE Stock Market Challenge entered its final stretch. Though Grimes was not among the top three schools on the latest leaderboard, Ms. Cooper cheered her students on, reminding them that with one week left in the three-month competition, a late rally is still possible for a chance at a trophy, bragging rights and a pizza party.

Thank you to the students, families and staff who made Grimes School’s Rhythm & Soul Dance on March 27 a night to remember. The music, the moves and the laughter filled the room with energy and showcased the true spirit of our school community. We appreciate your continued support in making events like this so special.

Lunar New Year Presentation by Hector

Grimes School sixth grade students have been diving deep into research, with projects recently completed for a Lunar New Year Learning Showcase and New York State’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. online showcase. For their Lunar New Year projects, sixth graders learned to use primary sources, databases, and how to paraphrase and cite sources. Students that successfully completed their projects and met the criteria on the rubric then presented to 2nd-4th graders and later participated in a catered Chinese lunch.

Grimes School's January Student of the Month Ariel Blackwell has shown exquisite growth across all core subjects, and it truly shines through her daily work. She consistently gives her very best effort, approaches each day with determination, and never backs away from a challenge. Congratulations Ariel!

Grimes School's 2026 New Year’s Holiday Party brought staff together for a cozy, laughter-filled breakfast celebration that was equally festive and delicious. Fifty-three colleagues gathered around tables dressed in cheerful Christmas tablecloths, topped with elegant runners and twinkling white lights, because even breakfast deserves a little sparkle. ✨
