Congressman Jamaal Bowman visit Grimes School
Grimes School hosted a conversation with Congressman Jamaal Bowman on Friday, May 19, 2023. Congressman Bowman answered questions from teachers, parents, and students.
"We are delighted to have a partnership with our congressman,” said Acting Superintendent Dr. K. Veronica Smith. “He has been instrumental in bringing programs to our scholars.”
The event included a tour of Grimes and a performance from the middle school African dance team. Several students were invited to an upcoming leadership conference in New Rochelle.
"The Grimes family is excited to have Congressman Bowman visit our school. We are looking forward to future conversations. This was a great day for Grimes School.”
Mount Vernon Police Department Chief Marcel Olifiers, Captain Gregory Addison and two patrol women visited Kristine Brooks' sixth grade class at Grimes School on Monday, September 16, 2024. The police officers thanked the students and their teacher for letters the class sent them on 9/11 thanking them for their service.
The Grimes School Debate Club engaged in a tournament at Grimes School last month about animal testing, where the topic was, “Should animal testing be banned in the United States.” The debate was held with the American Debate League, and students competed against other students in the Debate Club at Grimes. The team received medals for their performance.
Scholars of Mrs. Joycelyn Alfreida Rios' class at Grimes School were smiling ear to ear with prizes, treats and personal awards after being recognized for reading the most books in the Learning A-Z Challenge on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.
Eighth grade students at Grimes School recently completed their Civic Readiness Project, a community cookbook catering to the residents of Mount Vernon specifically. Civic Readiness Projects allow students to demonstrate their civic knowledge through research and problem solving.
Parker Turner, a third-grade student at Grimes School, was honored on May 3, 2024, for winning the third-grade essay writing contest. Parker was announced as the winner of the Buddy White Essay Contest on February 29.
Grimes School held Family Fun Math Night on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Families played educational games together and had a fun-filled night together at school.
For National Poetry Month, Grimes School students read and wrote poetry about themselves as the third No Place for Hate Activity of the school year. Students read their poetry to their classmates on Friday, April 19, 2024.
